Epitalon: Research Overview

Epitalon (also written Epithalon) is a synthetic tetrapeptide with the sequence Ala-Glu-Asp-Gly, originally developed by the St. Petersburg Institute of Bioregulation and Gerontology in Russia. It is a synthetic analogue of Epithalamin, a natural polypeptide extract of the pineal gland. Epitalon has attracted sustained research interest primarily for its effects on telomerase activity and telomere length in cellular models, as well as for its broader role in circadian rhythm regulation and pineal gland function.

Mechanism of Action

The most studied mechanism attributed to Epitalon involves the activation of telomerase, an enzyme responsible for maintaining telomere length at chromosome ends.
